Following devices to use:
- figurative devices (metaphor, personification, simile)
- sentence starts and structures (you want ‘flow’)
- precise verb choices
- word connotations for tone and mood (be consistent. extend the metaphor)
- consistent tense and verb form use
- ‘showing’ the reader the scene – don’t say ‘night’ say ‘the flicker of moonlight on broken glass’
- accurate use of the various parts of speech (noun, adjective, verb, adverb, preposition, conjunction, subject, article)
- avoid cliche moments. be original
